Block Island Concert July 4, 2006 Taunton City Band Inc. is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a non profit educational and cultural organization.

The band was organized in the early 1900's by musicians who were former members of the St. Anthony's and the Artista Band. In the early years it was the primary school of music education for young men interested in playing a musical instrument, and its primary activities were to provide music for religious procession and festivals.

The organization strives to promote the means and opportunities for the continuing education of the public with respect to the study and culture of brass band music; to conduct concerts and provide a street marching band for the mutual benefit and enjoyment of its members; to educate and instruct its members in the theory and practice of brass band and marching band music; to assist the public in promoting and developing an outstanding music education and appreciation program; to assist the musical organizations within the community in the performance of musical entertainment programs; to provide the opportunity for young members to receive training, instruction and experience in performing with musical instruments; to promote and foster the tradition of Portuguese-American musical heritage; to stimulate increased interest in brass band music and encourage participation of members in activities having that end in view.

The band maintains a regular rehearsal schedule in the winter and spring of each year, and maintains a full concert and parade schedule in the summer months.

The band is funded through program service revenues, grants, and donations.

The band is affiliated with:
      Association of Concert Bands Inc.
